Live Longer, Healthier

One simple secret : basic hygiene at home!

According to the UK-based Hygiene Council (HC) ,the average life expectancy of human in 1910 is 48 years and by 2010  this become 76 years .Of this  28 -years increase, five years resulted from advancements in clinical medicine. The other 30 came from improvements in hygiene and public health. A 2008 HC survey in eight countries including India and China revealed a few unhygienic hot spots :

Kitchen taps Clean them using a good soap ,household disinfectant and brush .55% of kitchen taps were found to be contaminated  with harmful bacteria ,but only 12% of people thought it posed great risk of disease.

Kitchen cloth Have a set of six and change it at least once a day,Wash and periodically sterilize (boil) dirty ones.Half of all people surveyed felt that the kitchen cloth was "the germiest object in the home, but few know how to keep it clean."The HC found that all(100%) kitchen cloths surveyed in India were highly contaminated with harmful bacteria ,including E.coli.Many people tend to believe that toilet flush handles were the most contaminated object in a home, but only 5% of toilet flushes tested were contaminated with harmful bacteria -negligible ,compared to kitchen clothes !

Appearances aren't enough Regularly wipe and disinfect floors and other surfaces ,especially those that are touched often .Many people  clean their homes for "purely aesthetic reasons rather than to remove germs,"says the HC study .

Clean hands Wash hands often with a good soap- the simplest way to prevent infection .The HC found that 70% of Indians surveyed might not wash their hands properly after coughing and sneezing .Although the optimal time for hand washing is 20 seconds ,33% of Indians surveyed only wash their hands for 5 to 10 seconds after using the toilet !!
